What it means
NEMA 3R compared with the others
A NEMA 3R enclosure goes indoors or outdoors. It protects equipment from rain, sleet, snow and falling dirt, and is not damaged by ice forming on the outside.

What does NEMA 3R mean?
It is an enclosure type defined by the NEMA 250 standard. It works indoors or outdoors, protects equipment from rain, sleet, snow and falling dirt, and is not damaged by ice forming on the outside.
What is the difference between NEMA 3R and NEMA 4?
NEMA 4 adds protection against windblown dust and hose-directed water. If the site is hosed down or has a lot of dust in the air, choose NEMA 4 or 4X.
NEMA 1 or NEMA 3R?
NEMA 1 is for indoor use. If the enclosure will be outdoors, you need NEMA 3R or higher.
Do they include ventilation?
They can be built with louvers or ventilation hoods. It depends on the heat your equipment generates; we review it with you when quoting.
How long do they take?
Typical lead time is 6 to 8 weeks from the approved drawing and deposit.
